Large Nugget Bark
DESCRIPTION:
A textured bark similar to the small nugget, but larger is size and appearance. Screened to contain pieces 1'-2" in size, the larger pieces offer more durability and less fade. Naturally dark but color can vary.
USAGE:
Often used in sloped areas for better erosion protection. Often used around trees and shrubs for moisture retention and weed suppression. Not an herbicide. Often used in large, open planter beds.
Small Nugget Bark
DESCRIPTION:
A thickly textured bark style, this natural material is screened to remove the fines and for a more even, nugget-lie appearance. sized from 3/8" to 1". This textured style provides more durability than bark with fines and lasts longer with fewer top ups. This is typically red to brown in color but will have natural variation.
USAGE:
Often used in large container planters for moisture retention and a finished look. Often used in smaller, tight yard spaces due to its maneuverability and resistance to scattering. Due to its softer texture, it can be used as a pet-friendly alternative with consistent and proper cleaning practices.
Medium Nugget Bark
DESCRIPTION:
A textured bark similar to the small nugget, but larger in size and appearance. Screened to contain pieces 1'-2" in size, the larger pieces offer more durability and less fading. This is typically red to brown in color but will have natural variation.
USAGE:

Hog Fuel
DESCRIPTION:
A coarse bark alternative, this product is processed through a grinder or mill, using the by-products of milled lumber. Stringy and fibrous, the material ranges widely in size and texture. Unlike bark, hog fuel is not simply the bark layer of the tree, it is a mixture of bark, wood chips, shavings, and sawdust. Can be odorous and not typically recommended for fine garden or landscaping applications.
USAGE:
Often used around animal enclosure borders for mud control. Often used for erosion and mud control due to its moisture-absorbing properties. Often used for unpaved outdoor roads or paddocks. Not recommended for animal bedding.
Peninsula Forest Mulch
DESCRIPTION:
A medium grind mulch product, containing natural wood products from materials such as stumps and landscape debris. Sometimes referred to as Arborist chip. This product varies widely in both color and size. NOTES: The natural materials actively improve the soil layer as the materials break down. The mixed materials combine to make a strong source of beneficial microbes for the soil as it breaks down over time.
USAGE:
Often used in woody areas for natural weed suppression. Often used in informal garden areas due to its rough and uneven appearance.
Medium Bark
DESCRIPTION:
Primarily a natural Fir bark product with some Hemlock, ground to pieces between 1"-3", and reddish brown or varied in color. This bark is coarse in texture with wide variation in size from piece to piece, and will have fines smaller than 1". Use this to protect roots during cold months and for weed suppression in growing seasons, when combined with weed control products.
USAGE:
Helps to regulate soil temperature and protect roots in colder months. Often used in garden beds to aid weed suppression and moisture retention. Not an herbicide. Often used where minor wind erosion is expected due to better stability from larger pieces.
Fine Dark Bark
DESCRIPTION:
Natural fir bark that contains small amounts of hemlock. The natural bark material is double-ground for a smaller and consistent size. Useful for weed suppression and moisture control, and also to protect tree and shrub roots in colder months. Considered a fine bark material, it is typically darker in color due to processing and aging. It will darken over time rather than fade.
USAGE:
Generally preferred for areas where a more consistent color and presentation is desired. Due to the size and processing, this bark product will break down quicker and add beneficial nutrients back into the soil.
Fine Red Bark
DESCRIPTION:
A natural fir product, made by re-purposing the bark from fir lumber, then screened to 5/"8 and below. Naturally colored, this can vary between red, brown and other natural hues. The bark material is beneficial for weed suppression, soil temperature control, and contributes beneficial natural nutrients as it breaks down. Red bark is similar to Fine Dark bark, allowing gardners to make a choice based on their desired appearance. Due to being a natural product, color will vary and change over time with exposure.
USAGE:
Use as a top layer to beautify landscaped beds. Spread around the roots of trees and shrubs to help retain moisture. Layer over garden beds during winter months to protect roots.
